Your metabolism and health

I'm sure you've heard it "if you want to lose weight, eat small meals more frequently" WHY? well, apparently it helps your metabolism. If you go long periods of time without food, your body slows it's metabolism so that it does not burn through your energy too quickly.

It's like when you have a budget for your paycheck. Your paycheck comes every 2 weeks and you know that if you spend all your money the first day, you are going to be hurting for the next 13... so you slow down on the spending so as to conserve your money until you get more.

Metabolism is like that. So why eat frequently? You tell your body not to worry about using the energy because there will be more really soon so "party like a rock star Mr. Metabolism, we're RICH!"

There's another catch. When you are eating these frequent meals, DON"T MAKE IT DONUTS! LOL. Choose things like fruit, veggies, whole grains, lean meats..... your body can use that! Donuts? not so much.

It's like your boss giving you a peice of paper every day telling you what you've earned that day. Good to know but you can't buy groceries with it. Your body needs a REAL paycheck, you know?

Another thing about eating many meals a day...you get hungry more often too. Your body starts thinking about food all the time because it hasn't been storing it, it's waiting for you to give it more so it's excited that you are giving it some food and causes you to crave it more.  You don't want to disappoint the little fellah, give 'em something GOOD!

So, I'm thinking, how's my spiritual metabolism? A Passion for serving God requires a full and strong spirit. If you want to get out of life what God has planned for you, you need to be in training, that means speaking to him and hearing from him. Spiritual Metabolism is how your spirit uses prayer! Good stuff in, Good stuff out!  Are you giving your spirit one or two big meals a day or 5-6 small meals a day?

1 Thessalonians 5:17 says "Pray Continually"

Ephesians 6:18 says " and pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for al the saints"

As our spiritual metabolism gets stronger, it gets easier to pray, just as with our body metabolism it becomes easier to eat. Just as we need to watch what we put in our body so that our body learns what to crave, so we should invest in our prayer time so that our spirit will know how to pray, like on auto pilot to the big guy! When your body is working on a healthy metabolism, it is more efficient with the use of the food supply, so is your spirit when you are in constant conversation with the Lord!

Roman 8:26 says " ...the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express."

Be strong my friends, eat strong, pray strong, live strong........and my prayer for you?

3 John 1:2 says "Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may bo well with you,  even as your soul is getting well along."

Who's voice do I hear?

Ok, so hope I don't disappoint, but this post doesn't have anything to do with Zumba either! :)

This week I was at my son's baseball game and my son was up to bat. Well, let me tell you first that this is my son's first year to play baseball, and he's learning as he goes, he knows the basics but putting basics into practice is sometimes alittle different. You know the general rules and boundries but it's the nuances of being a part of the action that can take on a whole different feeling.

So, my son was up to bat. There are coaches by the dugouts, coach on first, coach on third, ump behind you, ump by 1st, ump behind the pitcher, etc etc etc. ... Parents are screaming in the stands, kids are yelling, and there my son is trying to do the right thing.

It occurred to me that it must be hard to focus with all that noise going on. I mean, your coach says to you, "listen to me" "pay attention to me" "watch my signals" but my goodness, how do you know who's yelling at you? To top it off, I think the catcher had the same name as my son. So you hear his coach yelling directions to him, and you hear my son's coach yelling directions at him and the look on my son's face is "Is he talking to me?"

So this gets me thinking...how do you know your coaches voice among all the shouting? YOU LISTEN.
You listen during practice, you learn the voice of your coach, you know the things he says, you become FAMILIAR with him.

Over time, you learn when to look at him, and when to just listen for him. You learn to trust what he means when he yells, "GO!" and what he means when he yell, "HOLD!"

Last night I learned that if you don't listen, you make a mistake, and that mistake could cost you, but there is value in learning. Last night, he tried to steal 2nd, he got out when he ran back to first. 2 things, #1, he doubted the decision he made when he was on the cusp of 2nd and ran back, and #2, he didn't listen to his coach because he should have never tried to steal 2nd in the first place.

When he came off the field, his coach said "what where you thinking? Did I tell you to run? " No, was the reply. "Listen to me, do what I say". What was the lesson? Listen to and trust your coach or there will be consequences, he sees the bigger picture of the field and is directing your path.

So, failure hurt and the coach said shake it off. Next time out, he listened and watched and brought in the winning run! Oh what a marvelous feeling and a marvelous lesson! 2nd go he had learned to pay attention and trust his coach and Wall-ah! Confirmation!

I realized that God is speaking to us, through His Word, through Christ's time on earth, through our Pastor, and through fellow Christians, he is laying out the land, directing the path, He wants us to LISTEN, WATCH HIM,Become FAMILIAR  ....KNOW HIS VOICE!

How will we know His voice? Listen to Him speak,  let him scold you when you mess up and appreciate the grace He shows when He says "shake it off". Trust him so that you can see the result of the win and receive YOUR confirmation. He sees the bigger picture, and He is your guide. Learn to LISTEN FOR HIS VOICE!

Sometimes form ISN'T important....

Last night in Zumba, I was having a great time....as usual...but we got to this move that I just did not understand, you had to put your arms up high then bring them to about your shoulders and then up, it was kind of a cross between Egyptian lady and Vogue (Madonna version), while doing this motion (which requires HIGHTENED AWARENESS by the way) you needed to move your feet sort of like the mambo and shake your hips too! Crazy crazy stuff!  Anyway, I couldn't do it, I had the feet, and the hips but the arms could NOT be incorporated! LOL

So, what to do, flail about, wondering if you have any of it under control or resign yourself to the fact that 50% correct is much better than 0%! So, I made up my own little move with my arms, much to the entertainment of those around me, but the leg part, spot on......well, almost spot on! :)

This leads me to wonder, do you find yourself discouraged when you can't do 100%? Do you stop all together or do you go with what you got, do it to your best ability and try to manage the weak spots the best you can?

The primary reason for following the movement precisely is to get the maximum benefit of the activity. Right? So, the motion above should have used many of my body parts and sculpted away to create the chizzled body I needed (LOL!) but not doing any of them correct would have brought me no where. So by quickly deciding that some is better than none, I was able to concentrate on what I could control, not what I couldn't.

Life's like that. We get hit with crazy situations and sometimes they come faster than we can master. You can throw your hands up and say "I just can't do that" or you can face what you can, and not stress over the rest. Sure, some days, you can master it all, others you can't, and that's ok. Every opportunity offers a chance for growth and sometimes admitting that you can't do something is just as much a learning experience as achieving it can be.
